DEATH AT SEA

Eritara Aati Kiaerua died in March 2020 while working onboard a Taiwanese flagged commercial fishing vessel FV WIN FAR 636 as a fisheries observer. Four years on, his family are still searching for answers to his unexplained death at sea.

Manuela Lubrano is an Italian Film and Media composer based in Bristol whose work focuses on telling unheard human stories through music and inspire social change. Together with her partner, Alexander Leeming Froudakis, she forms a composer duo specializing in scores that explore urgent global issues such as climate change, human rights, and humanitarian crises. Their score for When the Floods Come was nominated for Best Original Score at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards (2024) and for Best Score at the RTS West of England Awards (2025). Their recent projects also include Death at Sea (RTS winner 2024, Jackson Wild finalist 2024).

She holds a Master’s degree in Music Composition for Film & TV from the University of Bristol and has been mentored by acclaimed composer William Goodchild and Tom Nettleship of Two Twenty Two. In addition, Manuela is the in-house composer for Human Rights at Sea International and Jungli Films based in Pakistan, and a core member of Moving Target, a bespoke scoring house born in Bristol, founded by Timo Baker and Neil Davidge, that brings together a bold and diverse collective to craft  original music for screen.

She is known for blending contemporary orchestration with electronic textures and her own voice. Beyond film scoring, Manuela is the founder and director of Art Comes Alive, a live performance exhibition that supports local art, where painters create visual art in real time, inspired by music composed for the event. Through this work, she continues to explore the connection between sound, image, and emotion, inviting audiences to reflect and engage with art as a transformative, therapeutic experience.
